6:30 p.m. Movie
Enchanted
An animated fairy tale meets modern, live-action comedy. The beautiful princess Giselle is banished by an evil queen from her magical, musical animated land and finds herself in the gritty reality of the streets of modern-day Manhattan. Shocked by this strange new environment that doesn't operate on a "happily ever after" basis, Giselle is now adrift in a chaotic world badly in need of enchantment. But when Giselle begins to fall in love with a charmingly flawed divorce lawyer who has come to her aid - even though she is already promised to a perfect fairy tale prince back home - she has to wonder: Can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world?

Help “Spruce up” Mt Hope Cemetery

National Join Hands Day . . . this year is observed on Saturday, May 3 in West Point at Mt Hope Cemetery with funds  supplemented by Thrivent Financial Chapter Burt-Cuming Branch # 30240.

Your help is needed Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to noon.  The event will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point as adults and high school youth are asked to take part in “Spruce up Day” in preparation for the Memorial Day observance on Monday, May 26.  Bring a rake, shovel, a power chain saw and a pair of gloves.  A couple of pick-up trucks also can be used.  A lunch will be served at noon at Grace Lutheran Church Parish Hall for all volunteers.

The City of West Point does not care for the cemetery and it is only sponsored by the selling of plots, memorials, donations and volunteer work.  Although Mt. Hope Cemetery may not be your cemetery; it is believed that everyone has a relative, neighbor or a loved one at Mt. Hope.

Contact Dick Moodie or Harry Breitbarth if you have any questions.

 Dear Council and Congregation,
Thank you so very much for celebrating my 25th Anniversary of service to Grace Lutheran Church as Parish Coordinator.
Thank you for the gift Certificate – it was quite appropriate!  Hopefully the weather calms down soon so I can use it.  Very nice..
I appreciated the kind words, cards, gifts and the council standing with me!
I look forward to each new day the Lord has given me to continue to come into the office and am so happy to continue to work with the congregation and our new Pastor Chris Meier.

                                                            In Christ,

Thrivent Builds

The Lutheran Men in Mission in Nebraska are excited to be hosting the LMM National Men’s Gathering in Omaha, Nebraska on August 1 -3rd, 2008 but are equally excited to be able to build a new Habitat for Humanity home in time for the Leopoldo and Maria Guzman family to receive the keys to their new home during the dedication services scheduled during the National Men’s Gathering.

We want all Nebraska ELCA Lutheran congregations to have the opportunity to be involved in some way in either or both of the above events.  The following are some ways that men from your congregation can help:

Recruit men to attend the National Men’s Gathering – Register at www.elca.org/Lmm/

Recruit worker volunteers and/or food day volunteers – The volunteer sign-up sheet can be downloaded from the website www.rejoiceomaha.org.  Instructions to sign up are on the form.  A picture and description of the family is also on the website.

Make a monetary donation to help cover the cost of the Habitat house – The total cost of the five bedroom home is $110,000 with 10% of the cost to be raised by the ELCA Lutheran coalition.  Please make checks out to the RMM Assistance Fund and mail to Rejoice Lutheran Church, 2556 So. 138th St., Omaha, NE  68144.

INEBRASKA SYNOD ASSEMBLY

“Grace, Gratitude and Giving”

On behalf of the entire Nebraska Synod, the 2008 Synod Assembly planning committee would like to invite you to the 17th Synod Assembly of the Nebraska Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in Grand Island, Nebraska, May 30, 31, June 1, 2008.

The theme for our assembly is “GRACE, GRATITUDE, & GIVING.” For three day, voting members from Nebraska Synod congregations will gather in Grand Island for the great work that God has placed before us -- to be the people of God in Christ Jesus, those who proclaim Christ in our congregations and communities, firmly believing that God is at work in our congregations and ministries together. How we live our lives matters and how we respond to God through our stewardship of time, talent and treasure is our witness to God in the world around us!

Our time together begins Friday, May 30th as the Assembly comes together in opening worship and prayer. Our time will include the opportunity to discuss and discern God’s will for our church as we consider resolutions, elect voting members to the 2009 Churchwide Assembly, and conduct the important business of our church. In addition, our Keynote speaker, Dr. Mark Allan Powell, will delight us with his wit and wisdom, bringing new insight and perspective to our stewardship life together. Author of the best-selling book, “Giving to God,” Dr. Powell will help us see that STEWARDSHIP is everything we do after we say, “I believe.”

On Friday evening, the Synod Global Mission Committee has a special program prepared for us as we celebrate the 15th Anniversary of our Companion Synod relationship with the Northern Diocese of Tanzania. Saturday night our award banquet will give us opportunity to recognize Rostered Leaders’ significant anniversaries of ministry and service. Unique this year to the Banquet will be our special guest, Patrick Henry Hughes, recipient of the 2006 ESPN/Disney Wide World of Sports Spirit Award. He and his family were also featured on the ABC television series, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. His story will inspire us all! We look forward to seeing you in Grand Island.

Finally, we will conclude the Assembly on Sunday morning welcoming back an old friend to the Synod - Dr. Richard Hardel. Dick will close our Assembly with a final address - Living a Generous Life. The Assembly concludes with Sunday morning worship for the Voting members, visitors and guests.

Judy & Keith Lutz are our elected delegates to this assembly along with Pastor Chris Meier.

THRIVENT OFFERS “Simply Giving”

Through “Simply Giving”, your donations to Grace Lutheran Church are made through a pre-authorized withdrawal from your bank account.  You determine the frequency of your automatic gift-weekly, semimonthly or monthly-the option is yours.  Your gift is deposited into the church’s bank account on the same day it is withdrawn from your account.

BENEFITS TO YOU AND TO…YOUR CONGREGATION:

“Simply Giving” is a reliable, safe way to move your stewardship plan into action.  It allows you to share your gifts through planned giving and activates your generosity into ongoing stewardship.  Because your gift is given consistently, you won’t need to play “catch-up” at year-end or worry about forgotten checkbooks or missed Sunday offerings.  But you’re not the only one that benefits.  Your congregation benefits from steady, more predictable revenues throughout the year, more efficient bookkeeping, and great confidence in meeting its financial commitments.

WHY DOES THRIVENT FINANCIAL FOR LUTHERANS OFFER “SIMPLY GIVING”?  Thrivent Financial offers “Simply Giving” to further its mission of serving Lutheran congregations and institutions.

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE:  Complete a form, attach a voided check and bring it to Sandy in the church office.  The forms are available from her or on the Thrivent Bulletin Board across from the church office.  There is NO COST to the church or the participant for doing this.  We do have several families already making their donations this way and it is a safe and easy way to donate.

You can still get your envelope box each year and when you come to worship just write “Simply Giving” on the amount line and the counters will know what you mean, and you can still put an offering envelope in the offering plate if that makes you more comfortable – OR you do not need to get your envelope box each year – whatever…works for you…

WHOM DO I CALL IF I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS ABOUT “SIMPLY GIVING”?   “Simply Giving” will be administered by Vanco Services, LLC, an outside vendor that Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has contracted with to provide administrative services.  Talk to Sandy in the church office as she is our congregational administrator of the “Simply Giving” program or call Vanco Services at 800 675-7430.
